Extended Quotes. What watters think of society

All users are quoted with permission

"Society is a relative term.

It's made up of people who have accepted the norm, dictated by the ones who control the media.

It's the media that tells us how we should look. It's the media that says who's attractive. It's the media that portrays stereotypes and biased news stories. And finally, it's the media that tells us what we should be afraid of.

Because of this endless barrage, ethnic minorities has been linked to homicide and portrayal of how women should look and how men should look, as well as act, is the root cause of depression in young teens, or so I believe. There is no way they could live up to the standards of photo shopped women and men, no way that they will ever be the celebrities they look up to.

For ethnic groups, it’s a sort of covert oppression. Because a man is Asian, he wont succeed in the entertainment industry unless he knows martial arts or is funny. Same thing goes for women of all races, being portrayed as objects of men's desire rather than independent people.

But I guess we were doomed from the start. After all, rich white men who had no intention of giving its freedoms to the minorities designed the Bill of Rights.

That's my rant on our society. Maybe I went off on a tangent lol”~@thomasLarson

"I suppose it is always going to be popular to complain about 'the state' of today's society. It isn't a new thing. People always need something to complain about.

And yes, there are still things wrong with society. But that's stating the obvious.

There are also a lot of things good about our society. We are making improvements for equality in various different areas. We are always progressing and moving forward. You can moan about how social media is destroying 'society' - but look how fast it spreads news, look at how it keeps us in contact with people we would otherwise not be. Social media has also done a lot of good for opening up otherwise impossible lines of communication.

There's the pessimist's way of looking how far we have to go. This seems to be the popular one. It is also the one that gets on my nerves.Or there is the optimist's way of looking how far we've come. I much prefer this way.

Stop being so mangy. Things are as good as they have ever been in the history of humanity." ~@_justcloseyoureyes_

"You know what I hate about society?

That it's not socially accepted to be an introvert. That you're expected to always have something to say or know the exact words to please others. What's wrong with me sitting back in my chair and truly listening? Why isn't that acceptable?

Why? Because people want you to be the comedian, and the soap opera actor, and to be able to say all the right things ALL the time. But some of us choose not to, and some of us don't get any excitement over spending every waking hour surrounded by people who might not mean anything two years from now. Some of us ideally like to sit at home and do what pleases us, rather than feel like we are obligated to please other people all of the time otherwise we are socially inept.

I want it to be okay that I'm not the life of the party, and that I'm not always chumming with every person I meet.

And that is why society sucks.”~@Smurfriel

"Gender roles. Fuck gender roles. I hate em. Men aren't always going to be "manly," girls aren't always going to be "girly." Guys don't always have to be the ones to ask a girl out, and a girl doesn't have to always wait for him to do it. If you want something to happen, do it. We're all just human. Why is it expected that men have to be a certain way? It's not socially acceptable for them to wear make up and dresses and love pink. Why not? Why can't they wear frilly pink outfits and eyeliner without being called "gay" and "girly"? Why are those even insults? Gender, in the west, is rigid, and if people fall out of the "norm" they get shunned by most of society, and I just don't understand. Why does society make it such a big deal? It's not.
